Artist's Comments

I apologies for the slightly messy nature of this work - I'm a slightly lazy artist sometimes lol... and still only a beginner on the Wacom, so don't be tooooo harsh on me lol.

This work was yet another one for school. It's of a lesbian couple - and as such the title and social commentary should be registered accordingly!

how 'bout that...

That is a beautiful little distillation of something so heartbreakingly human. I love it. I think it would have to inspire a little pang of longing for intimacy in anyone who's ever felt it.

And I love the shading.

That's the sort of emotional response I was aiming for in an audience with this work, so I'm profoundly flattered that you aknowledged it. Most ppl who've cruised my gallery have noticed the recurring themes of emotional needs. I'm continually being labelled by the people around me (including those whose careers revolve around mental illnesses & diseases) as someone who is dependant. One of my best friends told me that I fall in love with the idea of love - I never truly love the person, just the feeling of being loved. So to me, having strong relationships is vital - thus the title "Lifesupport".

Hehe, I did their skintones the same color at first, and then thought "... oops...", and made one slightly pinker. To me she looks sunburnt, but my friends didn't think so, so I'm not too worried. :)

The trouble with mental health professionals, psychs, and counsellors is that whenever they identify a distinct personality trait they want to diagnose it and treat it. I think what they call "dependent" translates roughly into "not being afraid to feel, to be vulnerable, and to hope".
